Dining Event This Weekend in the Berkshires

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

One of our favorite restaurants is Chez Nous, in Lee, only a 10 minute drive from Brook Farm Inn.  They’re offering a special event this weekend. It’s an opportunity to celebrate what we always love about winter: the wonderful, warming foods and wines that can make you really look forward to a snowy night, seated around the table with friends, savoring the flavors of winter and lingering over it all. They’re hosting Wayne Glazer of Arborway Wines for a special dinner:

“Une Nuit en Hiver”
{A Night in Winter}

Friday, February 27 – 6:30pm
$75 per person

Included is a tasting menu of some favorite winter dishes, expertly paired with wines from Wayne’s portfolio. For a preview of the evening’s menu, click here.

Please call ahead to reserve your table as space is limited.

Distinguished Lecture Series: My Latest Novel – I’m Serious This Time!

On Sunday, Feb. 15, at 4:00 P.M. come to the Lenox Library!  We at Brook Farm Inn have heard Daniel Klein lecture, and you won’t want to miss it.  His lectures are as informative and entertaining as his books.

For information, contact: Denis J. Lesieur   413-637-2630   dlesieur@lenoxlib.org
The next program in the Distinguished Lecture Series presents DANIEL KLEIN, co-author of the international bestseller Plato and a Platypus Walk Into a Bar: Understanding Philosophy through Jokes.

Mr. Klein majored in philosophy at Harvard University and has therefore naturally worked as a writer for television comedies and quiz shows, writing jokes for such comedians as Flip Wilson, Lily Tomlin, and impressionist David Fry.

He has also written 30 books, fiction and nonfiction, including a mystery series featuring Elvis Presley as a detective (Kill Me Tender, Blue Suede Clues, etc.). Daniel Klein is also the co-inventor of the board game “Group Therapy.”

Together with the other “philosophy guy” he has most recently published Aristotle and an Aardvark Go to Washington, a book that deconstructs the double-talk, high-falutin prose, and deliberate disingenuousness of politicians. He will be talking about his latest book.

All programs in the series are free & open to the public.

February 15th at 4:00 pm

Our second season of the Distinguished Lecture Series continues with a talk by author, humorist and philosopher Daniel Klein. Join the co-author of the best selling Plato and a Platypus Walk into a Bar: Understanding Philosophy through Jokes

as he discusses

“My Latest Novel – I’m Serious This Time!”

Daniel Klein may be getting serious but that doesn’t mean that he is any less entertaining or that he has abandoned his fascination with the intersection of philosophy and daily life. Come and get an advance glimpse of life in life in fictional Grandview Massachusetts. This quintessential image of  a bucolic New England town harbors Wendell deVries and his family – average people soon to experience extraordinary events.

The History of Now presents philosophical questions disguised in a small town family drama. As one reviewer has noted: “As a portrayal of small town life, The History of Now is reminiscent of Richard Russo’s glorious novels about rural America. Its everyday encounters ring true, its dialogue glitters with wit, and its seamlessly integrated storylines create a consummate picture of one small place ineluctably connected to all places”

The Distinguished Lecture Series has been organized and is hosted by Prof. Jeremy Yudkin of Lenox.

We’ve been re-decorating at Brook Farm Inn!

Saturday, February 7th, 2009

We love our 1882 inn, and in the quieter winter months, we have the time to lavish paint and wallpaper on it to keep everything spiffy.  So we’ve just re-decorated the Cozy Hideaway Room.   The front sitting room also has a whole new look with new furniture and carpet.  In addition —  not as visible but certainly just as important for our guests’ comfort – we’ve added soundproofing to the walls in our Shadowood rooms.  It’s such a pleasure to share our home with our guests.

Snowshoeing in the Berkshires

Sunday, February 1st, 2009

The recent snowfall has given us perfect conditions for snowshoeing and cross country skiing!  Some of Brook Farm Inn’s guests this weekend had a great time snowshoeing.  We went out ourselves this afternoon to Pleasant Valley, the MassAudubon Wildlife Refuge, and enjoyed a trek on our favorite trail, the Hemlock Trail.  Walking through the evergreens, with snow resting on their boughs, and a partly frozen stream nearby, is as magical as you can get.  We expect the next couple of weekends to have great conditions.
