And all I saw from where I stood
Was three long mountains and a wood.
Over these things I could not see:
These were the things that bounded me…

At Brook Farm Inn “there is poetry here,” so we’re proud to be supporters of Steepletop and excited to have the opportunity to take a tour!
Marking the 60th anniversary of her death, Steepletop, the home poet Edna St. Vincent Millay lived in for the final 25 years of her life (and the building in which she died accidentally at the age of 58) will be opening to the public – as part of the museum dedicated to her and her work – for the first time this year.
There are sixteen tours offered each week beginning Friday, May 28, 2010. They will take place at 11:30, 12:30, 2:30 and 3:30 Friday through Monday through October 18. A few of those days may not be available. A maximum of six (6) people may tour at any one time. The price for these tours is $15 per person.

Good news for movie goers in the Berkshires — a new, state-of-the-art theater! It’s the Beacon Cinema on North Street in Pittsfield, where an old building has been completely renovated into 5 separate screening rooms. It has the advantages of comfy seats, lately released films, and a convenient location, and some great restaurants are springing up in the neighborhood. It’s close to Brook Farm Inn, your bed and breakfast in Lenox, MA.

Among the lovely guests who stayed at Brook Farm Inn for Christmas, was a wonderful family group. It was great fun to host these family members ,who played the piano and sang during our tea time — mulled cider actually, instead of tea for a change – and gave us permission to share this song which they wrote just for their stay with us. It’s sung to the tune of “Winter Wonderland.” Watch this blog for a video in the next day or two — you’ll see Linda among the guests, wearing an antler headband !

Welcome to Snow Time in the Berkshires
Frosty welcomes you to Brook Farm Inn
The pristine snow that fell in Lenox a few days ago resulted in the sighting of these winter friends at Brook Farm Inn. The Berkshires are now ready for cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. The ski areas are making their own snow to add to nature’s bounty, and the scenery is great!

To us (Linda and Phil), owning Brook Farm Inn, in Lenox Massachusetts, is more than running a business. It’s also the maintaining of the building’s rich history. We researched the history of the inn through deeds, maps, and historical newspaper clippings (also very dusty ancient tax records in the basement of Town Hall), and the results of our search are posted on the website www.brookfarm.com/history.html. So that’s how we were discovered by Michael Kraus, whose grandfather purchased the property in 1914. Michael’s grandfather was Charles Bleyman, who owned the property until the 1930’s. Michael and his wife, Susan, stayed with us recently, and furnished photos of Bleyman and other family members. So watch for updates to be posted on the Brook Farm Inn’s history page, and thank you, Michael!

There is poetry here…. And one of our most memorable poetry readings was the one given by Peter Bergman, Executive Director of the Millay Society. We’re glad to share the Millay Society’s new website www.millay.org. You can go there to find out about the progress at Steepletop, Edna St. Vincent Millay’s home in the Berkshires. There are also upcoming events. Steepletop is a lovely place to visit any time, where you can walk the Poetry Trail, a wooded path, with poems posted along the way, ending at the peacefully sheltered gravesite.

Can’t believe we’re already talking about fall foliage, because we’re in the middle of a delightful summer. But we have to mention a website that we just became aware of, http://foliage.org/massachusetts/bed-and-breakfast/brook-farm-inn-berkshires-bb/. It’s all about New England in the scenic autumn season, and we’re glad to say that there’s a lovely write-up of Brook Farm Inn.

We’re delighted that Brook Farm Inn is mentioned by Francine Segan on this terrific website magazine in an article entitled “Summer Breakfasts — Perfect for a Sunday Brunch.” http://www.bettyconfidential.com/cbc/food-home.html Francine is a food historian and cookbook author who’s written about us in the past. She is also a noted presenter, who was at Shakespeare & Co. last night, and our guests who attended raved about her. We’ve enjoyed Francine’s presentations about food and movies, and also food in Shakespeare’s time. We highly recommend her cookbooks!
