Snow Falling on Brook Farm Inn

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

February ended with several snow falls with varying amounts of accumulation.   The attached video was taken in the back yard of Brook Farm Inn during one of the recent storms.  The local towns have done a good job keeping the roads clear and our guests have been enjoying great downhill and cross country ski conditions.  Linda and I have been snowshoeing in Pleasant Valley Wildlife Preserve here in Lenox MA.  It was some of the most beautiful scenery we have seen in years.  There was three feet of snow at the top of Lenox Mountain.  We came back to the inn and sat by the library fireplace.  We love the Berkshires in the winter.

Snow Falling on Brook Farm Inn

Winter Wonderland in the Berkshires

Monday, January 4th, 2010

The snow-filled scene from Brook Farm Inn, a Lenox B&B, is like a Currier & Ives print.  We’ve been snowshoeing lately, and it’s an exhilarating way to enjoy the beautiful winter trails.  This weekend, Notchview has a great offer, and it’s not far from Brook Farm Inn.  After skiing or snowshoeing, our hot tea and scones by the fire is just right.

A property of the Trustees of the Reservations, Notchview offers 30 km of scenic trails to hike, ski, skate or snowshoe this winter. On Jan 9th they host Winter Trail Days with free snowshoes and trail passes for two hour periods.  They’ll also be offering free cross-country ski and skate lessons, a wax clinic and a snowshoe hike.

Snowshoeing in the Berkshires

Sunday, February 1st, 2009

The recent snowfall has given us perfect conditions for snowshoeing and cross country skiing!  Some of Brook Farm Inn’s guests this weekend had a great time snowshoeing.  We went out ourselves this afternoon to Pleasant Valley, the MassAudubon Wildlife Refuge, and enjoyed a trek on our favorite trail, the Hemlock Trail.  Walking through the evergreens, with snow resting on their boughs, and a partly frozen stream nearby, is as magical as you can get.  We expect the next couple of weekends to have great conditions.

“Living With It” at the Barrington Stage Company

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

There are lots of things to do in the Berkshires when you stay at Brook Farm Inn in Lenox Massachusetts.  After a day of snowshoeing, skiing, or snow tubing you can enjoy good theater, restaurants, museums or just sit by one of our 11 fireplaces and sip wine.

Here is the latest performance from the BSC:

Living With It, written and performed by Frank La Frazia, is an autobiographical account of life as a teenager with a parent suffering from bipolar disorder. It portrays a young man who is coming of age, seeking independence and having to deal with the responsibility of caring for a sick parent.   In the tradition of Spalding Grey, John Leguizamo, and Eric Bogosian, this poignant and humorous piece features Mr. La Frazia portraying several characters.

Show Times: Friday, February 6 and Saturday, February 7 @ 8pm.
Sunday, February 8 @ 3pm. All Tickets are $15.

Berkshires Winter Wonderland

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

We’ve had a lovely snowfall, and Brook Farm Inn looks like a Currier & Ives winter scene.  There’s just enough snow to rest on tree branches and look beautiful, also to provide perfect cross country skiing and snowshoeing — without jeopardizing travel.  The scene from our dining room is spectacular, especially since the bird feeder is visible there.  This morning there were a red-bellied woodpecker, a hairy woodpecker, and a pair of cardinals all at the same time.  The red, black and white of their plumage against the white snow scene was unforgettable.  Snowshoeing is terrifict at Pleasant Valley and cross country skiing is recommended at Kennedy Park or Canterbury Farm.  Come and enjoy it with us!

Good news!  Despite the warm weather, you can go cross country skiing and snowshoeing  in the Berkshires.  Canterbury Farms, in Becket, has trails open.  Link to them at www.canterbury-farms.com for an up-to-date report on conditions.  Some of our guests at Brook Farm Inn in Lenox have also been enjoying Bousquet Ski area.
